I feel very strongly on this subject. The only difference is my opinions are basically opposite those of the other people.
It's time we started helping the tobacco companies!!!

Why?

Because people like you are making it harder for them to sell their products, with your special taxes and such.

BECAUSE IT'S MEAN TO HAVE PEOPLE KILLING THEMSELVES! I mean I know it's not our choice but we shouldn't even give them that choice in the first place

When you start taking away people's choices, you end up with communism. Would you like communism? I wouldn't... Anyway, choices that only effect you should be your decision (like suicide, Chica, I thought you agreed with me on that ). But then yeah there is second-hand smoke, which the anti-freedom people would have you believe is very dangerous (I don't believe that it's as dangerous as they say). But that's why smokers used to be allowed to smoke only in bars. used to be... BUT NOW THEY CAN'T!! NOT EVEN IN BARS!!Why must you be so cruel? To take away the freedom of smokers to smoke, and to take away the freedom of cigarette companies to make a living...

BECAUSE IT'S MEAN TO HAVE PEOPLE KILLING THEMSELVES! I mean I know it's not our choice but we shouldn't even give them that choice in the first place I agree. And if they want to stay in business then why not just do something better and something thats actually healthy?

Because if they quit the tobacco game, what are smokers gonna do to get cigarettes?

Hopefully they wont. Why can't they just do something healthier?

Because did you ever think that some of them want to smoke? Who are you to tell them they can't have a cigarette every now and then? And the tobacco companies are the only ones that realize that. But what do we do? We have ad campaigns against them, we won't allow them any counter ads, we won't even let people smoke cigarettes in ads or shows, we tax the hell outta anyone who wants to buy cigarettes, and now we've even banned cigarette smoking in bars... And you say the tobacco companies don't need our help?

They may want to, but why can't they find something else that they want to do thats healthier? And people tell them they can't/shouldn't because they care for them and don't want them to die from smoking. And why should we care for the tobacco comanies? All they are doing is killing people.

Well now, that's sounding a little too much like communism for my liking. Why would anyone go as far as taxing people for the things they like because they "careabout them." If you want to smoke, there's nothing else you'd do that's better for you, because it is what you want to do.
And no, the tobacco companies are not just killing people. They are providing loyal consumers with a product. It's a simple economic transaction, why make it more complicated? The dying is just an unfortunate side-effect of the product, but everyone knows that thanks to the surgeon general's warning. Isn't that enough?

the smoking bans are mostly because of second-hand smoke, and the danger it represents to non-smokers

the so called "danger" can be regulated by allowing smoking people to smoke in bars, or well ventilated designated smoking areas. There's no need to go about saying who can or cannot have a cigarette.

or well ventilated designated smoking areas that's the issue. most restaurants do not have very good ventilation in their smoking sections, because the smoke still finds its way to the non-smoking section

For one thing, I don't think second hand smoke is all that dangerous. Especially if it gets to you all the way from the smoking section to the non-smoking section. Also, it's up to the restaurants to make better ventilated smoking sections to accomodate those who like to smoke. Also, in bars people like to relax after work with a cigarette and maybe watch the game or something. Why would you want to take that away from them?
