I think that the FPSRPG has been tried. Look at Deus Ex. It usually isnt good to mix the two genres, the purists of both would get angry. After a long thought, I think I need to go with RPGs. The 'real' RPGs, the ones with tons of character choice and progreesion, and aren't action based. Baldur's Gate is a good example of this, Neverwinter Nights is a pretty good one too, though that one is pretty action-y. Half - life 2 is my newest FPS obsession, though I stopped playing it for Neverwinter, and that is an older game. So I vote RPG!

Morrowind is close to an FPSRPG, and it's pretty good.

rpgs are way better an rpg is defined by a few elements that make it unique and pure but a fps can be applied to most any game genre
alot of fps games are fun, but tend to have repetitive elements most rpgs can be played multiple ways and have alternatestories depending on how you do things
these are my arguements for now

ultima, doom, ultima, doom... Ultima and other RPG's, you can just level spam and then walk though with no challenge, Doom and FPS's require skill, I gotta go with FPS's

Final Fantasy is an excellent RPG series, and Halo is an excellent FPS. Morrowind is some of both. Overall, I think it's just too hard to decide

Gamerman is one of the last people I expected to play Doom. After carefully considering the options (playing Doom for a few hours), I have decided that it is still too hard to decide. It would not be too hard to mix both elements (as Kiddofreak said it would be earlier). If anyone thinks otherwise, I can always explain what I mean later. Doom and other FPS take skill to play, that is right. But I do realize that any FPS can be very fun at first, but then become boring and repetative (move around, see guy, shoot guy, repeat). And if you are worried about an RPG being too easy, well it can always be made harder. We are talking about game styles in general, so think of anything you want in a perfect game (be it some form of trick to stop you from level spamming or whatever you want). My point is: If you can imagine it, then think about it, then understand if it is an FPS or RPG, then decide which is better.

ultima, doom, ultima, doom... Ultima and other RPG's, you can just level spam and then walk though with no challenge, Doom and FPS's require skill, I gotta go with FPS's The trick to RPGs, is actually role playing. Of course it is fairly simple to just level until you get powerful and beat the game. The thing is, is that it can be awesome to create a muscle-bound mage, or a sharp-witted warrior. These classes not only add difficulty, but can also make things more fun. More than anything, though, I need to stress the storyline. It is true that some FPS have good storylines (Shogo for example). But the problem is that the number of good RPG storylines, far outweigh good FPS storylines; and seeing as how I have been playing games for their story ever since the first King's Quest, these things are important to me.

i havent been exposed to many fps but the ones I have played (no offense) suck! rpg all the way! they have awsome storylines (Final Fantasy 7,9,10). storyline is really important in a game (my opinion). fps have storylines but not good ones.

well it seems RPGs beat FPS and if you say RPG as in rocket propelled grenade and FPS as in frames per second as in movies and video games, rocket propelled grenades still win w00t

Azan, that last post barely meets the relevance meter. With my new Gmod powers, I won't be afraid to delete posts that have absolutely nothing to do with the board. Though you did mention FPS and RPG, and gave evidence, despite how vague it may be. Gamerman, I think you had better think of some new reasons for FPS goodness fairly quickly. We are a biased forum.
