I think it's quite amzing we're the dominant species on this earth. Our sences suck compared to other species, we're phisically weak compared to other species (of comparible size), we have no claws or fangs, and no fur to keep us warm in the winter. We're fully reliant on our technology. Without tools, we'd go extinct.

so you say its our use of tools that make us unique?

Actually, we do have fur... most people just shave. Our bodies are meant to be adaptive -- meaning we aren't realiant on just one of our abilities. We don't have great eyesight or hearing, but we can function without them. Can you imagine a hunting animal without it's sense of smell? I can -- but it isnt very happy... or alive.

No we do not have fur, fur and hair are 2 totally different things. All mammals have hair, but not fur as fur is much more dense and is used for heat control. It is believed that humans (like many other animals) lost their fur when they went to much hotter climates (in humans case Africa) and by the laws of natural selection those who could keep cool lived. Some humans today can have fur, but it is a mutation and is incredibly rare.
Part of the adapive part is right, except most people didnt shave thousands of years ago reguardless of climate, normaly if we were in cold areas natural selection would allow those with fur to live, however as humans we can make things like coats and fires to prevent this from happening, and it is our ability to use tools that makes us adaptive, our bodies are made for warmer climates (africa for example) which is where many believe modern humans originated, however because we can use tools it allowed us to expand into colder regions.

1) No other animal shows evidence of the human inquisitive nature to ask and to learn.
2) Humans are the tool-makers, whereas the only other animal to show anything close was a chimpanzee using a twig to collect insects

1.) umm most animals are inquisitive, and most animals will learn
2.) otter's use of rocks is far better... and the beaver's use items to help them build dams/dens.

Seriously, we are far, far smarter than any animal. Shouldn't that be enough to distinguish us?

so a mentally challenged human is not distinguished from the rest of the animals?

so a mentally challenged human is not distinguished from the rest of the animals? *sigh No it is the human race as a whole, we arent looking at individuals, the average human or the overall intelligence of the human race far exceeds that of any animal.

so a mentally challenged human is not distinguished from the rest of the animals? 1. I'm pretty sure even mentally challenged people are smarter than all other animals, unless they are severely challenged. 2. People in general are the smartest. End of story.

Yes I agree with number 1 and 2, na average mentally challenged person can still talk, animals dont pocess the brain power.

but if it was really a truely unique thing to humans... than ALL humans would have it... otherwise its not unique, its just a trend.
what makes hte people in a yatch club unique, they all own yatchs... if a group of people in the yatch club didn't own a yatch, then they arn't unique from the rest, as they woudl just be a group who happens to have alot of yatchs, but arn't unique from the rest...

Again you are looking at individuals, look at a much broader scale that is all humans.
The unique thing about the human race is that we pocess the highest intelligence of all creatures on Earth.
Now lets see if I can think of a think thats completely unique to all individuals... hmm oh we all have the ability to have pocessions, even mentally challenged people own things, animals dont know the concept of ownership. ... then again even animals can have pocessions but they cant get it themselves.
Oh I know we all have the same classification "Homo Sapiens" there, no other animal has that.
