a base in okinawa, in a densely populated residential area which had been responsible for MANY crimes in the area, including a rape of a young school girl in 1995, has finally, after over 10 years of continous protest, been moved to outside the city.

Unless we live in Okinawa, which odds are that no one here does, why should we care?

well what about the view of us, do you really want the world view to be "well anything we do to you is excusable because we are american". that sounds more like nazism than liberty and equality...

Really it was a US base? That doesnt suprise me as since China has become a huge threat to Japan (and the US) the US has started giving modern weapons and training (not just the US though, much of Europe is too, and Canada) in the event China does invade.
However usualy when the US thinks its helping it sometimes isnt, just look at the Middle East, we started the war by putting US military bases on Muslim Holy Land, we are the invading "evil empire" from their perspective, however this is different for Japan as they are asking for our aid (well buying it as they are rich) so in the end if they want to move the base its their right. (then again I dont lnow much about the back history of this whole base ordeal so...)

the base has been there since WWII, we basicly arn't going to remove it. We also have US bases in germany, and almost all western coldwar nations (the 3rd willingly let us).

Hmm I hadent realised that there are still military bases from that era, well all ill say is this, if they want it there then it stays, but if they want it gone we have to remove it.
