i've been following the story for a while, I was waiting to post about it though. what has happened is that Hurricane Katrina came through, a category 5 hurricane, and the thing is, is that the city of New Orleans was already located 6 feet below sea level. what's even more sad than the deaths is the obliviousness. there are a lot of people who do not realize that things like this are happening. I mean, read the title of the thread. New Orleans has been destroyed. Leveled. I mean, my grandma knows some people that she works with that live in New Orleans, and they were evacuated, and now their houses have been literally ripped away. There is nothing left of their house but the foundation, just one big rock slab. Also, I have heard that some of the rescue choppers that have come to the hospitals to evacuate, have been getting shot at, believe it or not. I dont know a lot at this point, but from what I do know, this is a disaster.

Yeah I heard about it, but it really doesn't matter who knows or not, it's a matter of who pays attention. I say that after things are back under control that we forget the city. It was in a bad place anyway, we shouldn't rebuild it.

well Louisiana asked for a certain amount of money to help them prepair for any hurricanes should they strike... guess how much bush approved of..............................................18% of the money they felt was necissary. I bet there would be alot less damage (and alot less cost) if he gave the full preperation budget, or even half of it...

perhaps. . .
Anyway, if they are going to rebuild New Orleans (because it is an important city now that I think about it) they should at least build it better so that this won't ever happen again. They should leave everything like this, and rebuild the new city on a platform, like Midgar. Maybe they could even call it Midgar. . . And then old New Orleans would be the slums.

a platform would be more likely to rip appart than a house would, and you would put archetechure into even higher wind speeds. the highground until the platform legs break isn't enough to offset that (and teh enourmous cost involved in making a platformed city [though it would have a degree of koolness to it, like venice])

Well I still say they can't simply rebuild it, it's just gonna get all flooded and destroyed and looted again.

That was terrible. I saw an opra on it (goverment class) and that was just sad looking inside the super dome. People were having babies inside (they didnt actualy show that on camura) that were just left to die because of no one had supplies, gangs were shooting at eachother, teh stench was aparently awful and there was no lights at all. outside, people were rotting away in the middle of the streets, garbage and junk everywhere, houses with "HELP" written on the top, and man it was just anarchy.

i dunno how many of you heard this, but New Orleans was beginning to allow residents return to their homes the other day, and they have all been sent back. Hurricane Rita is on its way now, and depending on who you talk to, this category 4 hurricane could devastate Houston, or New Orleans again. New Orleans officials report that if the city takes another 3 inches of rainfall, the city will flood again.

yeah, not to mention that the vast majority of refugees fled to Houston, which is where Hurricane Rita could strike
UPDATE! Hurricane Rita has now been classified as a Category 5 Hurricane!
