i think that if we use genetic engineering to make better food for us, that's ok. animals... I think that's pushing it

hmmmm.... So, from what I can ascertain, the issue here is that genetic engineering can be a very useful tool for improving things by means of DNA alteration, but at the same time changing what is already here for our own benefit is the same thing as playing God, and should not be allowed. I'll have to ponder this for a while...

Why isn't "Yes, but only on humans" isn't a choice? I'm not saying I'd choose that, but its possible, like for war.

i know I am really ignorant here but what is genetic engineering? I mean I think I know what it is and I actually watched a movie called GATTACA about how in the future we genetically enhance babies so that they can be whatever kind of child you want and the people who are discriminated against are the ones who weren't genetically enhanced. it's sad but weird. anyway if someone could explain more of what you mean then I would be greatful.

Genetic Engineering alters the genes of things for example GE is being used on plants to help them grow in areas without alot of water (to help starvation) GE is also being used on turkeys to make them fatter Why isn't "Yes, but only on humans" isn't a choice? I'm not saying I'd choose that, but its possible, like for war. humans are animals, and you cant really engineer a human to make them super soldiers (it does have limits)

mmmmmmmmmmmm...turkeys! well I think that's not cool cuz I mean our country is already getting obese and just cuz we have the technology to do so doesn't mean it's right. but I like the idea of the vegatables cuz I know like in peru what they have done is used the mountains and made almost little plateus just so they cold grow crops and if we could do that without having to build stuff just genetically engineering a vegatable I bet we could solve a lot of the hunger going around the world especially in africa.

Yeah I agree with the plant part, as for the animal part, I sorta miss typed it, they make the turkeys have more meat so less turkeys have to be sloughtered to get a large amount of meat

ooooooooooooo that would be cool too but even with my family at thanksgiving it's hard finding a turkey that is small enough so we can eat it all but it would help I agree

Yes the only downside is that a turkeys life is the equivalent to a human weighing 500 pounds and being forced to be stuck in a little cage your entire life, which is why I am somewhat against/for it, im all for plants though

Indeed, it would help alot. However we really shouldn't be playing God...

Yes, thats an argument I can agree with but 1: Where does it say in the bible that you cant geneticaly engineer things 2: If humans continue to populate the world we will run out of recourses, we need to start now in getting better sources of food (but im going to be against GE as soon as I invent a way to create organic substances in a machine, then when I get rich ill give everyone at this forum a million dollars )

You have a good point there...I suppose it doesn't really say it...but it still is wrong, isn't it? 2. I agree with that (w00t! $1,000,000 for me!)

Okay, here's my two cents:
I think it is a cool thing, if anything. I've always thought that science should be exploited to its fullest extent to help the greatest number of people. GE would help make bigger crops that would require less work and water, etc. Granted, it does have its problems. Sometimes, GE food has different and often unexpected results on humans and lesser animals than the normal crop. I think I heard a story about a man getting poisoned by a GE tomatoe. I think that extensive testing is needed before mass produciton, in any case. The whole, "playing god" is wrong idea is kind of complex. If I'm right, and I might not be, the first commandment is to worship only God. Now, humans playing the role of "God" (which is actually kind of a weird way to put it, since no existance of God can be indefinately proven anyways) is almost like bypassing his word. Not following his word is like disobeying him, and that would be against the commandments... I think.

Well, I woudnt say that its against the 1st commandment really, because we arent putting ourselves (if we are playing god) in front of god, we still hold him above all else, we just modify his animals ... so we arent turning away from god at all.
Edited: oh yeah and that GE plants being poisonos is a bunch of urban legends, almost all food we eat now is GE and I dont see any misterious deaths going around because of GE food.
