My dad is going to buy a new computer soon, and he's not very computer savvy. So he wants to know which computer he should get. So I'm gonna ask all you computer nerds out there which kind he should get. Which is the fastest, more harddrive space etc. The computer he has now is less of a computer and more of a paperweight. He's considering getting a mac. What does everyone else think?

Firstly let me just say, no macs! They are the spawn of Satan (and not the kool Satan, the unkool Satan) and they all deserve to be burned!
Moving on thats difficult to say, I need to know some things first as there really is no one good computer, well there is but price is a huge factor, you want to get the best deal possible.
1: What will this computer be used for (things like gaming or web browesing etc. etc.)?
2: How much is he willing to spend?

Heh, I told him nobody likes macs. But he really want's to know why, so. . .
Anyway, suprisingly enough (because he's usually such a cheapskate), he seems willing to spend quite a bit on a computer as long as it's good. Just as long as we're not talking gold plated millionaire computers, I think price shouldn't be much of a factor.
Secondly, I want to be able to play oblivion on it ;D
And he probably wants to do writing and printing and maybe art and graphics stuff. Basically a good, all around computer is what he wants.

Gotcha, seeing as how you want to play oblivion and price isnt much of a factor ill have to do some back research on Oblivion, but if he wants to do art (and if you want it to play oblivion) all I can say is it will require at least a gig of ram. Well ill start looking, and once I have some good specs ill do some research on some prices/locations to buy them Ok your best off fully customizing it by having someone else like best buy build it for ye, but here are some good specs, and if you have more money try to get a better video card, even though this one should work. Ram: 1024MB (1GB) RAM CPU: Intel 3.2GHz (around there at least, AMD is also just as good) Video Card: GeForce 6800GT or higher

My personal advice is to check out www.alienware.comthey have incredible machines there, and they're very reliable. as far as playing Oblivion goes, I think you'll need at least a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics card

Aleinware is too expensive, allready built a comp there and its waay too overpriced. And check here for Video Cards that will run oblivion, a GeForce 6800GT should run it just fine on medium settings (maybe, but always try to get better cards). www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=187724But I have configured a very good comp on alienware for around 1800 dollars. It would be the easiest rout. And its a awsome comp here are the specs. [glow=green,2,300]AHHHH!!!!!! why, why, WHY did you let your dad get a mac? you have sealed your fate as a tortured slave in hell for all eternity now!and you cant game worth crap...seriously, does your dad have no qualms about selling his soul? your best bet is to burn the mac and the desk it was sitting on. and the rug in the room. and all the furniture in order to attempt to appeal to God for buying a mac.if you dont, you will be damned to serve/be generally tormented by the Devil for all eternity [/glow]
