Good and Evil, Beautiful and Ugly, Right and Wrong, and so many other conceps commonly used by humans.
But what are they?
They cannot be proven. They cannot be measured. They cannot be sensed. They cannot be defined without bringing up more undefineable conceps.
What are they, and what is their purpose?

FINALLY, someone who agrees with me. Those concepts are opinions, and they differ between each human being! I hate it when people try to tell you that something isnt beautiful, or is wrong, and yet even I do it, it is simply a part of our lives. No one is able to judge that.

what defines the general definition of evil and good and beauty and ugly are majority rule.... hitler == evil because most people say so... now is he really evil, thats a matter of opinion, but his name and evil work together because of it... same with beauty and soemone like merylin monroe

"When all the world recognizes beauty as beauty, this in itself is ugliness. When all the world recognizes good as good, this in itself is evil. Indeed, the hidden and the manifest give birth to each other. Difficult and easy complement each other. Long and short exhibit each other. High and low set measure to each other. Voice and sound harmonize each other. Back and front follow each other." -The Tao Teh Ching, Chapter 2, Lines 1-8

Yeah, many of these things are basic opinions. I'd just like to point out that in my opinon, lying is one of the worst things you can do. I really, really, really hate people who lie regularly and without good reason. I can understand lying occasionally if it justified, but I don't approve of it. Basically if someone lies to me, I find it hard to forgive them, especially if I find out before they tell me the truth. . .

[glow=red,2,300]like the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. myself, I agree with azan and jiub, there is no way to measure beauty. it differs between each person, myself I dont find marilyn monroe all that attractive. and I think hitler was just doing what he thought was right. he might have taken it a couple steps too far, but in the end, he just thought that jews deserved to die. just think about it. alot of you people think that "terrorists" deserve to die. its essentially the same thing. Yeah, what's generally referred to as right and wrong are things that most people believe to be right and wrong. And btw I also don't think Merylin Monroe was quite as attractive as everyone said she was either. I don't like blond-haired women all that much.

Why is this whole thread suddenly centering around Marilyn Monroe?

they are ABSTRACT concepts cheer if you are a cheerleader I am going to strangle you for one thing but another even though you are taught "right and wrong" what you are taught are opinions. beauty is an opinion. like lobbs likes girls who aren't blondes and others do. he would say that a blonde might be "ugly" and yet another guy would say blondes are "beautiful" it's all a matter of opinion even hitler, I believe he was thinking he was ridding the world of something "evil" and even that is an opinion and yet we call hitler "evil" it's just the way we humans are we make things complicated p.s. I hate marilyn monroe's voice adn I don't think she's very pretty

i agree with azan and jiub also. these are all abstract concepts and cannot be measured. opinions are also based off the opinions of your parents, because you are around them for most of your life. what one person may consider to be beautiful another person may think is ugly. p.s. I dont think marilyn is attractive in the least

exactly
there are so many things that people consider as facts every day that are really opinions just being imposed upon them by figures of authority (parents, politicians, etc) and the media.
like "killing is bad." sure, I agree that killing is bad, but is it a fact? no, it's an opinion. some people believe that killing is good, and most people will call them crazy just because it's not what they believe.
p.s. Marilyn Monroe...*shudder*

yeah like Robert Stroud "the birdman of alcatraz" he killed and didn't blink one eye about it didn't really care and yet if you were to kill one of his birds he would get you! he cared more for the birds life than a humans and we see that as "wrong" but again is that a fact or opinion?
