Anyone ever create their own RPGs with RPG maker? And does anyone know a program similar to RPG Maker for the computer? Feel free to post any RPGs you've made or would like to make.

The best RPG maker for the computer that is not programming would be rpg toolkit (www.rpgtoolkit.com I believe).
Unfortunatley these programs suck (allthough I hear the RPG makers for the PS are quite good) and they dont allow you much control with creating RPGs so I stick to the harder, but better route of coding my own from scratch using programming.

Yes, I never recommend using RPG or Game makers that are point and click, unless they have a powerful scripting language. In which case you might as well just learn blitz or some other easy to use programming language. Not to mention its far rewarding to program it yourself. And if you ever want to make games for a living you must learn how to program, and very well too as making games isnt easy.

Right now no game company will take you in unless you have skills that can contribute such as art, or programming. Story writing is easy, like you said, but coming up with a story that then becomes a game doesnt mean you made the game, the makers of the game are the artists and programmers, you just created a story for them to work off of.

I agree, the story is just as important as anything else. But Azan is right, you do need to know the limitations of everything.

I couldnt disagree more, stories are important, but take it from someone who actualy has made games, the design/programming aspects are infinitley more difficult and more important than story. Sure stories can make or break a game but if you want to make games for a living you are not going to get by making stories and telling people what to do.
I regularily visit coding forums, and I regularily talk with people in the professional industry, ive talked with people from EA, Microsoft and others. Every so often you get this person who posts saying that they want to be a general video game maker, sad part is they only want to make up stories and direct all the other people, just doesnt work.
I dont mean to be harsh or anything, but it is really annoying to work so hard at something, such as programming, to spend years getting better to have some person come by who has almost no experience making games saying that they want to become game makers but they dont want to do any hard work, or that they can get by with coming up with good stories.
All to often I see people make a post like this on coding forums. "Hi, im going to be making games for a living, so I need 2 programmers, an artist and a music guy to do what I tell them to do so I can make my game." These people get yelled at, bottom line is, you want to make games for a living, start programming, arent good at programming? Get better and work hard, working hard too hard? Then game making isnt for you.
Once again apologies if I offended anyone, dont ever give up on wanting to make games, just work hard at it. I have very strong views because all to often I see people saying they want to make games for a living, when I or someone else tells them that they need to learn how to program and they get all "But you dont need to program to make games" or "I can just tell the programmers what I want in the game, I got a really good story so its my game" it just angers me and many other hard working programmers.
You almost never see jobs for game development called "Story Writers" or "Game developer"... unless of course the person does other work, the story writers are usually the programmers as they are the ones who have to build it, so who better to do so?
In games first you gotta have the general idea of the game/story, then the code, then you put in artwork/music/story. Not the other way around.
