Eastern RPGs are things like final fantasy, where as things like morrowind or D&D are western.
I personaly prefer western, they tend to be less linear, more attuned to graphics (all though usualy not story line).
Let the debate begin!

i'm all for a good game of final fantasy, but the issue is that not only do earlier FF games have multiple translation errors, but it can be too linear
i prefer more non-linear games like ES and D&D

Yes as much as I loved the FFs they were a bit too linear for me.

For the most part, I like western RPGs more, with one clear exception: Chrono Trigger. It's like final fantasy but with better graphics and eight endings. I'm willing to give up non-linearity for a great story line. Another example of this would be "Planescape:Torment" that game was awesome, even though it only had one ending.

I feel like I'm the only one who prefers Eastern RPGs >_> (With the exception of D&D, but eastern RPG's still out rank that)

I want to get NWN (at least if I think I know what that stands for ) I dunno, creating a character is cool, but I prefer a more in depth story and an actual backround. That's where D&D comes in, seeing as how you get both the story and the character, cept for I'm bad at making my own story >_>

But yeah, NWN = Neverwinter Nights, but I suggest waiting till fall or even before then for NWN2 w00t.

Yeah, I'll probbaly end up getting NWN2. I can't say for sure, but I also think theres a difference in the way the story plays out. Lke in Eastern stories are gonna be more...ugh, not sure what word to use...odd kind of? More fantasy like almost? Like compare FFVII's story to Oblivion, I obviously can't be 100% sure, but I'm thinking FFVII is a bit more odd, while Oblivion's is almost closer to realistic/something that makes sense.
*Spoilers for FFVII* Think of this: In FFVII theres Sephiroth, who pretty much went insane (that's not that fantasy like really, anything can have something liek that I suppose), there Jenova, who's really an alien from space who's goal is to kill everything. Sephiroth thinks Jenova is his mom. Multiple people have Jenova's cells in them, or mako in them, making them more powerful. And the main party consists of a mercenary (kind of, really just the bad ass person who's confused about everything kind of), a bartender/monk, a guy with a gun grafted to his arm, a girl with magic powers and a conection to gaia (their "earth"), a dog thing that can talk, a ninja/thief girl, a really dark character with crazy abilities who's really bad ass, a magic cat on top of a moogle that's really a robot kind of, and an old guy who builds airships and swears alot. *end of spoilers*
I could name more things that make it more fantasy than realistic (for lack of a better way to explain the difference). But my point is, is there's a difference in the way the stories are generally in Eastern and Western RPGs. Understand kind of?

Yeah, good points... but what I have found is that I can never play one type for too long before I need to switch.
