umm, to get unemployment benifits, you have to be looking for a job, and all other welfare isn't in the form of money (soup kitchens, unemployment shelters, food stamps).
as for gambling, I like the system of Nevada/Atlantic City/natives only. it localises the gambling districts to make it well under control, it gives something back to the natives who we forced to sign bad treaties for many years, and if you have gambling everywhere, then there is no reason for tourists to come in from out of nation for gambling, hurting tourism.
Poker matches between friends, however, whatever, no harm, no foul.

They have no real way of knowing who's looking for a job and who's not.

unemployment check isn't large enough for life and much entertainment, only the smallest amount (if that). And you have to submit a form in with the check saying that you applied at ___ place and if you didn't and you were randomly checked, you lose all unemployment benifits... so ya they have a way of knowing that you are applying places. (and they are getting better at it also, as they can now often just do a scan of your social securtiy number, required with applications)/

I think it should stay restricted to those big grand casino hotels and such, but overall, its one of our lesser problems that we shouldnt be holding against people who just do poker nights and such.

well the natives get casino privilages. If we got rid of that, we would then half to make it up to them some other way, right now its a good deal, as we owe them basicly for 90% of the land west of the mississippi (a debt that prolly approches trillions)... so if they are happy with casino == debt repayment... then lets stick with it

In my opinion it's also good for the economy. It's benefits outweigh the risks.

Well, as dangerous the side effects of gambling may be, they are always small scale, so therefore they are not a real government issue.
