w00t. Civilization games! (By the by, if anyone has the third one, we should play sometime.) Anyhow, Civilization has its ups and downs: It teaches (somewhat) how to regulate and expand large civilizations, as well as giving a small amount of economic strategy to the player. The bad part of them is that the games are almost always won through militaristic actions. Even if a player could win in the space race, they would have to leave themselves open due to lack of military funding. So, unless playing a, somewhat, realistic game with a group of friends where the economy is interdependant and relies heavily on you, like Switzerland, the only good way to win is militaristicly. Arguably, this is fine. It is just that Civilizations rely on more than a military to survive. I have heard that there are a couple games with large economic aspects to them (Rise of Nations) that I would be interested in playing. Thus, although Civilization games are fun, they aren't very realistic. If you want to learn about things, play SimAnt and read the information parts.

Call to Power II... the most realisitc TBS game I have found. It does, like civilisation, teach somewhat regulation and expansion of large civilisations, and gives a small amount of economic strategy to the player, but more so than in civilisation (such as the complex trade monopoly ideas)
and this game... is not always won by military, in fact I like diplomacy and space race project better than the military goal. And economys can be interdependent with or without human players (though obviously more so with humans)

Okay, we're gonna have to play sometime. We should see if you can get anyone else. Games with a lot of real humans are fun, economies play a bigger role and trades are based on personal gain and not (only) statistics and chance.

it costs only 10 to get Call to Power 2, and you dont have to buy a bunch of expansions, and it has better realism, thus more ways around the military win.

I'll look for CtP next time I'm at Best Buy, it sounds like fun. I'm pretty much open to any multi-player game though.

heh, I remember my first time playing: I used to be able to play at the fifth or so hardest difficulty on numbero deux (civ II). So, naturally, I figured I could do the same on the third. Enter resources and civil disorders that actually matter and governments that I actually notice. Ouch. I'm pretty sure I died in the first thousand years. The easiest seems a little easy, and the fifth is... *ahem* just barely to hard. So I could probly play at first or second difficulty.
