Woah... I just beat HL2... SWEET!!! It was, without a doubt, the best game I have ever played. The graphics are something I would expect from the 360, the controlls are extremely fluid, and the story was just how I like it- full of unanswered questions.
My favorite part, though, was the enemy AI. The headcrabs and antlions were dumb as rocks, but that's expected, they're just animals. The Combine soldiers, however, fought like west point grads. Seriously, these guys were BRILLIANT! Great use of cover, well coordinated movement, non-scripted ambushes, wonderful point defence (they shredded more of my antlion buddies than I care to count), good use of grenades, flanking, and my favorite- their use of the environment.
For example- At one point, I had to advance against a sniper. I took cover behind a small section of wall with an explosive barrel nearby. I expected him to hold fire, as he didn't have a clear shot. I could only watch in horror (okay, fine and a good deal of admiration) as his laser sight moved along the ground, up the barrel, and well... you get the rest.
"Alright, so I won't do that again. What about those crates past the truck full of logs? If I sprint for it..." I was thinking, and was greatly pleased when the sniper's sight was not on me as I ran. However, it was on something worse. The strap holding the logs in place. CRASH-DEATH!
On the downside, the game was short, only about 13 hours first play through. Also, the AI on your allies is AWFUL. Still, the best game I have played in quite a while.
