I know everyone's gonna be mad at me for this, but I just gotta wonder: What's so great about anime that a bunch of freaks made a whole board devoted to it? I'm sure it has good plots or whatever, but why's the animation gotta be so bad? It's all jerky and uses as few frames as possible. Is that why you all like it so much? Explain!

Japanese manga and anime's art isn't bad, its just different than what we Americans are used to. Also, only crappy animes have crappy animation (i'm lookin' at you, yu-gi-oh). For instance, have either of you seen Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Naussica of the Valley of the Wind, Patlabor, or Princess Mononoke? The art and animation is simply amazing.

Anime is just a style, Japanese Cartoonists developed this style along time ago and they have just evolved it and the same thing has happened here in America, notice how our old cartoons look the same only crappier? its just a tradition almost, and thats what makes anime so popular is that its different from what we get here.
Well thats my point.

Okay, but really they should invest in more frames and smoother animation quality. Also why would there be som many people who practically worship anime just because it's different? I mean, a whole board? Is that really necessary? Why are there so many anime-freaks?

Besides that video games nor anime have much else of a point.

Yeah but that's not the point. The point is that for some reason an entire group of people have devoted their lives to anime and I want to know why? And why don't they increase the animation quality at all?

I AM NOT TO SURE THAT THAT PEOPLE REALLY SHOULD CARE ABOUT WHY PEOPLE DEVOTE THEIR LIFES TO ANIME AND MANGA. I THINK IT IS JUST A HOBBY THAT EVERYONE IS USE TO OR MAYBE THEY JUST LOVE HOW IT IS FROM JAPAN. I MEAN IT IS THE SAME AS ASKING WHY GUYS DEVOTE THEIR LIFE TO HALO OR FINAL FANTASY GAMES. WELL, NOT THEIR LIFE BUT A GOOD PERIOD AS YOUNG ADULTS. OR AT LEAST THAT IS THE WAY I SEE IT.

Many anime have bad animation quality due to tradition, yes. A tradition that started because a long time ago when Japan was poor, they didn't have much money for entertainment. Some people wanted to get over that and created some cartoons with fewer franes, it looked worse, but it cost less. I think the style just kinda stuck. Personally, I think its kinda cool. Cartoons are all about style, anime is a style. Just as with any style, some like it and others do not. I'm pretty sure the reason there is a whole anime board is the fact that so many posts in the entertainment board were about anime. Just like in the video games board where popular games are given their own place. Personally, I think this question should have been posed about the "Guild Wars" board.

What do you mean "get it?" It's not a question of understanding it, it's a question of why bother having it look the way it does? Why is it so popular when all that makes it different is that the animation quality is poor?

Unlike most if not all American cartoons. Anime actually has a story and plot. I think that is a big part of it. Not too mention, alot of people can usually relate to the characters.
