Kevin continued walking. The clouds overhead had steadily lightened, and finally disappeared altogether. The sun. It was the first time he'd seen the sun in so long.
The ground was no longer soaked with rain. Now it was nothing but bare earth with sparse vegetation. Kevin continued walking.
After a few hours, the amount of plants dwindled until there were none. The ground became sandy and the sun was mercilessly burning away. Kevin began to feel thirsty, and it was apparent that he'd stumbled into a desert.
Still Kevin continued walking.

The sun rose high into the sky as the morning progressed. Kevin was very tired and very thirsty. He staggered onward through the sand dunes in search of water, almost resenting his decision to leave the city of eternal rain.
Kevin finally stopped near a rocky outcrop. There he paused to take in his surroundings. Climbing to the top of the tallest rock, he turned 360 degrees. Though his vision was still impaired, he knew even with perfect eyesight there would be nothing to see. Miles and miles of sandy dunes in all directions. Kevin was tired and decided to take a rest.
After a few hours of sleeping with his back up against the rocks, Kevin awoke. His mouth was parched from the heat, and he knew he wouldn't last much longer without water. But as Kevin rose and decided to get moving again, he realized the dilemma he was facing. When he had stood atop the rock to survey the desert, he had become disoriented and lost track of the direction from which he had come. With his poor vision he was unable to see any small details that may have provided a clue to solve this problem. He searched the sand for his own footprints, only to disover that there were none. A desert breeze had erased all traces of his tracks as he slept. He looked upward, the sky was clear blue and the sun was directly over head; not a cloud in the sky could serve as a hint. Kevin was lost.

(damn, that is getting annoying)
Victor spun on his heels as he heard the scraping of claws on metal and Quinn's bloodcurtling roar. Still about 100 feet away, he put his hand inside his jacket and gripped his .44 in the shoulder holdster.
"Quinn, settle down..." he said in the most commanding tone he could muster with his sqeaky voice.

Hennekin, glad he wasn't noticed, hopped out of the torn up van, leaving the aim of his gun on Quinn, ready to shoot at any moment, but remaining silent, as not to bring his attention over to himself.

Elsewhere in the desert, Kevin decided to rest at the rocky outcrop that he had stopped at. The sun sank into the west, and the temperature dropped along with it.
As night arrived, Kevin became very cold. He searched around for some shrubs, which he found. Uprooting them and putting some in a pile proved to be an easy task. When Kevin had gathered a large enough pile, he pulled a lighter out of his pocket and set the shrubs ablaze. Then he sat by the fire and looked up at the night sky. The moon was not out, and the stars shined so faintly to Kevin's bat eyes.
After a short while, Kevin became vaguely aware that he was being watched. A gentle breeze swept away the cinders of the shrubs which had burned all too quickly. Everything was dark once more. All Kevin could see were the faintly shining stars overhead. Kevin heard a voice from behind him.
"Kevin!!!" It roared.
Kevin stood quickly, drew his gold letter opener from his pocket, and turned to face the rocks and the owner of the unknown voice.
"Kevin!!!"

"Cane... settle down," the voice of his beloved calmed his soul a bit,"I know it was a hard day at the hospital, but it's your first week, it's alright to feel a little overwhelmed." He realized she was right, she always was. The man knew he got upset over everything too easily. Canis hugged his wife a little closer, putting his nose down into her hair. It's soft brown offset the sharp scarlet of her dress. He loved it when she wore that dress. "Thank you, dear, for reassuring me. I'll see you after work again - don't run off without me. You know how I need to see your face to calm down after such a strenuous workout," and without another word, he went out the door and started his old car. It was only when he reached the hospital that he remembered he had forgotten to say goodbye. "Oh well, I'll tell her how much I love her when I get home tonight..."
"Settle down, Quinn..." Even with the shaky voice, the words struck home and Quinn could feel the anger draining from his body. Tears burned down his cheek until they matted in his fur. He had only wanted to tell her he loved her... With a roar, Quinn dropped to the ground in a heap - reliving lost memories. Reviving his lost life.

((okay for those of you who think I'm just kidding, I'm not. I'm actually going somewhere with this))
"KEVIN!"
Kevin's nerves had failed him
"KEVIN! THOU MUST LISTEN TO ME!"
Kevin trembled in fear
"KEVIN! THOU HAST BEEN SUMMONED TO ME FOR A TASK OF GREAT IMPORTANCE!"
Kevin's gold blade slipped and fell to the sandy earth. He did not know exactly what to say. He did not know exactly what to do. He knew not what this thing was that spoke to him, and yet. . . he felt he understood. Kevin sank to his knees. He finally found the courage to speak. And he knew in his heart what he must do.
"I am yours to command"
Kevin gazed up in awe at the creature before him. Refusal was not an option, for this creature. . . could it be? Yes it was!
Kevin kneeled before the Great Lobstrosity!

Kevin awoke and felt the rain falling on his face. He did not recall exactly when he had fallen asleep, but the last thing he remembered was that monstrosity of a lobster telling him he had a task of great importance. Slowly Kevin got to his feet and took stock of his situation. He stood on the sidewalk of a busy street in the middle of the city of endless rain. He did not know how he had gotten back there, but there he was. He realized he was holding his gold letter opener in one hand, and in the other hand he held a bottle of pills.

"Pleasure. Well, first things first. Lets get rid of Vincent's body and then get situated. I've got a feeling we're gonna be here for a while." Victor said, looking around.
Walking back toward the van, he motioned to Quinn. "Hey Quinn, gimme a hand with the late bear-boy, willya? There's an canal nearby that'll serve to drop him off in. "

Kevin wandered the rainy streets for hours, thinking as he went. He thought to himself, wondering what it was the Lobstrosity wanted him to do. Some people stared at his bat wing and face as he passed them on the street, but the great thing about people in this city was that they usually minded their own business. Kevin walked down the street and thought and thought about where he should go. Before long, he felt the rain subside-- because he had wandered into a vacant car-park. He turned to leave, but then something on the floor caught his eye. It was a letter. Seizing the opportunity to use his letter opener for a purpose other than stabbing, he opened the letter and read it.
'Dear Sir Or Madam,
I humbly request your attendance at the corner of third street and main this afternoon at 4. Disregard any prior engagements, as this is of great importance. Do not forget.
Signed, Lobs T.
P.S. Wake Up'
Kevin awoke in the middle of the desert. He sat up and took some of the mystery pills, and shuddered. Was it a dream? Did it matter? He tossed the pills aside and started walking, without fully knowing the reason or direction.
