I think it's debates like this that can drive people insane almost. People think they want to know the answer to something, but when they finally find the answer, they regret it. Some things are meant to just be believed in. You shouldn't have to have solid evidence for everything, faith should be enough.

It depends on who you are. Personally, I don't regret knowing the truth about anything. I gladly choose knowledge over ignorance.

Indeed, because ignorance can lead to exploitation... Just look at every major religion.

What? Are you all nuts? Love is the greatest thing that can happen to any man and woman. Love is an undeniable truth that keeps people together, and to treat it like a thing that should be analysed, should be questioned, or suppressed, all these things are insanity. love keeps our race going, and if you dont like it, then maybe you all deserve to be alone and never reproduce.

love keeps our race going I believe it was that among many things that we had come up with earlier. I and Kiddofreak had stated that Love is just chemicals, but everything about us is chemicals so is love bad at all? No, of course not. Love serves its purpose. But for the most part I agree with all the people who stated this is a stupid debate, you cant really proove anything, the facts are that love is an emotion, an abstract feeling and that its purpose is to aid in reproduction... but thats where you draw the line, debates should be about hard facts, not abstract ideas.

You can't prove subjective ideas such as what constitutes good in society. Yet, shouldn't what is and isn't good for society be debated? What happens if we stop considering things such as is murder bad, sex before marriage, work on the sabbath, even things such as ideas of property rights and civic rights. Additionally, isn't choosing what to debate about a subjective issue. Don't we make a personal, unprovable choice, in what we think is important to discuss?

I agree but I'd like to add that each debate should not be an endless circle of arguements. The point is to change someones mind. If both parties are too stubborn in their belief then the debate becomes pointless. Society changes. Our opinions on good and bad change. We have to constantly look to reform our ways. For instance a lot of people believed that divorce was wrong and bad for society. But really it doesn't harm it in any way as a whole. And as for sex before marriage, I think that you are probably a religious person Ivan as is Vash. I don't think its a bad thing as long as you know what you're putting yourself into. Same with work on the Sabbath. If you don't believe in "The Sabbath" then you can work when you want. And not all of society is religious, in fact our country (U.S in case any don't know) that it is not a religion based society. We're a mixed pot of people and cultures. Society can't really be defined by one thing.

Alright let's breath some life into this debate once again. Let's change focus, if only for a moment.
Can you love someone and not like them? Is that lust? Is it only love, or only true love, or something else, when you love and like someone. Do these things have to go together?
With this new direction, let's hear everyone's opinions. I think I'll remain silent on the topic myself, at least for now. I'm more interested in what others have to say. In fact, that's what I'm generally more interested in, listening to others' opinions instead of talking about my own, heh.
On a side note, I'm trying to fight the urge to sleep by 'activating my brain', so to speak. Talking about 'important things' tends to do that.
(EDIT): I suppose 'stimulating my brain' would be a more appropriate term.

you can love someone and not like them . . . they're called family. I don't think you can be with someone your whole life though and not like who they are, which I think is a problem for a lot of today's couples, they think that with only love they can be together which definitely isn't though. And not necessarily lust. I think that if you both like and love someone even after you find out who they truly are then you are set up for a truly lasting relationship even if its not true love. And for true love I think yes you do have to like and love people.
