okay so this doesn't have any real bad side effects and it helps us? what kind of power would it substitute in for?

Nuclear power could be used instead of coal power, hydroelectric power, and pretty much anything else.

well would it work for big companies or something so that we get less pollution? or will it still produce pollution?

Nuclear power is very clean it doesnt put anything in to the atmosphere, you get radioactive waste which can be recycled and hot water whcih is the worste part.

I'm not sure. Probably fear of nuclear meltdown, which has happened in other countries but not in the U.S. There was nearly a nuclear meltdown, and after that incident people stopped trusing the nuclear power industry.
The chance of a nuclear meltdown is very remote, especially since we have developed better ways to prevent them recently.

then why havn't we used it before? We use it all the time, theres a couple in minnesota even, if I remember right it supplies most of the US power. The problem is you get hippi liberal protestors who are against it for some reason, they claim it hurts the environment when NP is a lot more cleaner than things like coal, the only thing thats cleaner is wind and solar, but neither produce enough for our population.

what exactly is a "nuclear meltdown"

Not exactly sure. The core of the reactor probably overheats and whatever they use to absorb the radiation can't handle it and so a bunch of radiation is released in the nearby area. It doesn't happen often I know.

If I remember right it has something to do with the boron rods not being able to hadle the reaction so it builds up pressure and explodes causing radioactive stuff to go everywhere.
Then again I got that info when I was in 3rd grade so it may be off.

I don't think they use boron to abosorb the radiation. At least, not anymore. Now it's all about the rare earth elements.

Ahh, yeah they probably moved on from boron. perhaps someone who knows how it works could enlighten us?

I'm all for it, what's the harm. Even the meltdowns arn't to much of a problem with modern safty precations.
